Course Description:
Introduction to cooperative argumentation. Students develop empathic and critical listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills for cooperative deliberation and problem solving practices; apply and assess reasoning and argumentative skills in oral and written communication contexts on various topics.
Reflective Narrative:
There are four learning objectives of this class: 1) Learn cooperative argumentation, 2) learn writing competency so we are able to fulfill our graduate writing requirement, 3) learn critical reading and thinking skills, and 4) learn vital speaking skills.
Through this class, I learned how to apply writing principles by online lectures, in-class instruction and through peer review. In addition, we were required to write three essays on topics involving cooperative argumentation. For my final essay, my task was to do an in-depth evaluation and analysis of the article College is a Waste of Time and Money by Caroline Bird. A sample of the completed essay is attached below. In order to strengthen our presentational skills, we were required to conduct two oral reports. In our final oral report, we were to identify a deliberative community described in Cooperative Argumentation and present our results in an oral presentation lasting 5-10 minutes. Attached below, you will find a power point sample of my work.
